The College’s 2010 Arts Festival proved to be a great hit with the general public with an estimated 1,000+ members of the public viewing a mixture of fine art, fashion, photography, textiles, sculpture and dramatic performances from students.

Even the Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield, Keith and Pat Morgan, satisfied their curiosity by visiting the student art exhibition in the College’s Dome, which was open for public perusal throughout the week.

Fashion and Textiles students received great praise from the public for their range of innovative collections in its sell-out fashion show at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel Theatre. In brief, the collections in this year’s show displayed a wide variety of inspiration, from ‘The English Garden’ to ‘Medieval meets the red carpet’. Contributing to the show’s collections were:

- National Diploma in Fashion Yr 1 and Yr 2 students
- Full and Part-time Foundation Fashion students
- AS/A2 Textiles students

Level 2 Hairdressing students worked in tandem with their counterparts studying fashion to create a selection of hairstyles that incorporated a variety of finishes, textures and smooth lines to compliment individual designer’s collections.

Level 3 Hairdressing students were given their own section of the show in which animated dolls were brought to life to display a range of cuts and colours with a dynamic edge, each complemented by avant-garde make-up.

The makeup for each of the models was individually created by hair and beauty students to compliment each collection whilst concentrating on accentuating the lips and eyes. The makeup artists were able to push the boundaries in their makeup creations for a special ‘Gothic Dare to be Different’ collection.
