Six Btec first Diploma in Hospitality students have returned from newly forged work placements in Esklistuna, Sweden.
Despite disruption to their trip by the volcanic ash cloud, the students had a great time training in different work placement locations including the Volvo heavy plant factory where they serve up to 1200 meals to their employees on a daily basis.
Accompanied by tutor, Damon Mason, the students also worked in The Bishops Arms – an English style pub in the town centre and the Rinmangymnasient College refectory kitchen which is operated by the college as all students in Sweden receive free meals from the government. Student, Dominic Rowe – Clayton, started at 6.00am everyday in the refectory to help bake the homemade bread that the kitchen serves along with its healthy meal options.

Damon explains, “It was important that we got to Sweden for this visit as there was a delegation from a college in Trebic, the Czech Republic at the same time. We were able to discuss not only continuing our successful exchanges with Sweden but hopefully beginning an exchange next year with the college in Trebic.”

These links complement the Chesterfield College visit to Strasbourg earlier in the year at the Alexandre Dumas Acadamie for Culinary Arts, the finest Catering School in France, with whom the College is keen to forge links with alongside other colleges from the East Midlands.
