Casa offers College art students chance to inspire guests

20th April 2010

Casa Hotel, Chesterfield’s only four star hotel, currently under construction on Lockoford Lane, is offering art and design students from Chesterfield College a fantastic trip to Barcelona in a competition to produce artwork for its 100 bedrooms.

The hotel requires 10 pieces of artwork which can be replicated and placed throughout the building’s bedrooms and in an effort to source original pieces from local talent, Casa decided to tap into the student’s imagination.

Casa directors have provided a brief to the students and are set to judge each submitted entry before crowning their three favourites. As well as providing £200 worth of artists materials and a nights stay in a luxury Casa suite for third and second place respectively, the top prize is a stunning two night break in Barcelona, including flights, hotel, breakfast and dinner.

Stuart Downham, Casa Operations Director, explains, “I’ve been really impressed by the standard of work produced by the students in the art and design department at the College. We want to utilise the obvious talent that the local area possesses and thought this to be an ideal way of doing so. The competition will also allow the students to gain a sense of what to expect from commissioned work as they progress into their professional careers.”

The Casa development, which will open in late 2010, will be complete with state of the art facilities; 4 stylish suites, 2 with balcony hot tubs; a 100-cover restaurant which will serve top-class traditional Spanish tapas, the latest leisure facilities in the Boost Gym, open terraces and landscaped gardens.
