Chesterfield College: News...

Helping the College Create a Greener Future
Date: 13th October 2008
Post-graduate student Florian Babeau comes from La Rochelle in France and has recently completed a degree in Quality, Security and Environmental Management at the University of Poitiers. He has a year’s experience of environmental management in industry, which left him with a strong commitment to change and a desire to focus on Sustainable Development in a foreign country.

Florian says, "The Charity Student Force for Sustainability, based in Oakham (Rutland), offered me the opportunity to improve my skills with a placement through the European programme EVS (European Voluntary Service). This non-profit organisation is committed to the LSC sustainability policy, and provides a one-year service to help colleges implement initiatives for creating a sustainable development (more information on the website http://www.studentforce.org.uk).
This year, Chesterfield College has decided to implement a range of initiatives as a step towards achieving a Sustainable Development. The College plans to implement a wide range of projects, with the emphasis on recycling, travelling and communication.

Until the end of March 2009, I will work as the Sustainable College Assistant to help Chesterfield College achieve its goals. My role will be to implement a travel plan, to improve the recycling process, and to encourage the presence of ‘Sustainable Development’ in the curriculum. Obviously, these projects will not achieve success without a strong focus on communication to raise student and staff awareness.

I thank you in advance for your welcome and help. If you have any queries or would like further information, please contact me on ext 1510, or you can find me in S311."
