A Clean Sweep for Chesterfield College’s Mitie Star
Date: 10th October 2008

Chesterfield College cleaning services Site Manager, Jan Roe, has been awarded prizes worth £21,000 after gaining the prestigious national ‘Mitie Star’ award from her employer, Mitie Cleaning and Support Services Limited, who are contracted to clean the College.

Jan, who joined Mitie as Site Manager for the College in 2006, has implemented procedures which have led to significant improvements, including the introduction of radio contact for staff and new routines to ensure that corridors are kept clear of rubbish throughout the day.

Jan maintains a very close relationship with the cleaning staff which has made for an excellent working team. Her success in improving standards was realised in the 2007 audit, when the team exceeded expectations by achieving an amazing 99.7% result, with the minimum score required set at 95%.

The Mitie awards have been set up to reward staff for their hard work and dedication, and winners are selected for their initiative, passion, commitment and their willingness to go the extra mile.

Jan received a £1000 cash prize for her initial award, a further £5000 for winning the next stage of the scheme, followed by a personalised prize worth £15,000 as overall national winner.
Jan’s regional director at Mitie Cleaning and Support Services, Neil Glover, said, “The transformation of the College over the past two years is a real achievement and Jan should be extremely proud of herself and her team.”
Jan commented,
“The money will be used for a well-deserved holiday, and a new conservatory….which I will try to keep just as sparkling as the College!”
