Chesterfield College
students were once again celebrating excellent A Level results, with
100% pass rates in thirteen subject areas and pass rates above 90%
in a further five subjects.

Over 300 students took AS and A Level exams at the College this
year, with the majority gaining grades between A and C.
Talented AS student Emma Brookes gained A grades in four subjects,
and plans to complete her A Levels at the College next year before
studying Law at Cambridge or Durham University. Emma, who was home
taught until the age of sixteen before studying GCSE’s at College,
has also been awarded joint first place in the Cambridge University
Sociology essay writing competition.
Twenty-three year old Pete Jones returned to College two years ago
to study for A Levels after leaving school at 16 and spending five
years in low-paid employment. He gained an A and two B grades and
has won a place at the University of Hull to study History, after
which he plans to take a teaching qualification. Pete’s high grades
have also won him a university scholarship worth £1500.
A Level student Amy Fletcher from Grassmoor, achieved two A’s and a
B to gain a place at Sheffield Hallam University on the highly
competitive Primary School Teaching course.
Also making the grade was 18 year-old Mary Kinsley who achieved 3

to study English at Liverpool University. At AS Level, Kadie Cooper
gained 4 A grades and will be applying to study Law at Oxford
University after completing her A Levels next year.
A Level Manager Stuart Booker said, “We’re extremely proud of all of
our AS and A Level students. The College’s A Level courses achieve
high standards year on year, a fact which seems all the more
exceptional when you consider the diverse range of backgrounds and
wide ranging experience and skills our students have, with many
coming onto A levels through non-conventional routes.” |
