A Voice for Derbyshire’s Youth
Date: 17th April 2008

Chesterfield College A Level student, David Smith (17), is forging a career in politics as a member of the UK Youth Parliament, after receiving a majority vote in a recent election that attracted more than 20,000 young voters.

Holmewood resident David, who was a pupil at Deincourt School before starting on the E2E (Education to Employment) programme at College, is also a member of the Youth Council for North East Derbyshire. He is due to take up his seat in the House of Lords for his first meeting in April. He said,
“This is an excellent opportunity for me to give young people a voice, and a chance to have their say. I feel like I’m making a positive contribution.”

Alongside his budding political career, David also volunteers as a Youth Worker and plans to progress onto a BTEC course at College before studying for a degree in Community and Youth Studies.
