Student Design work to front £7.5 million Health Village development
Date: 10th April 2008

One talented Art and Design student is set to see his/her work displayed at one of Chesterfield’s most vibrant new social developments.

National Diploma students have received a brief to produce a large-scale 2D design that can be manufactured onto a vinyl film and displayed on an 8.7 metre x 9.1 metre window overlooking Wheatbridge Road.

The £7.5 million ‘Wheatbridge Health Village’ development is under construction on the former Robinson Group industrial site, and is due for completion in August. The village will incorporate a range of organisations including a GP practice, community health facilities – dentistry, chiropody, physiotherapy and women’s health – and a pharmacy. The facilities will be used by approximately 15,000 patients.

Engagement Manager for the Directorate of Art and Design Jeremy Asquith said, “The student project was developed following meetings with James Totty Partnership (Architects) and Wheatbridge Development LLP. Students were briefed on the 7th January and initial designs will be discussed with the client in the near future. The final presentation and judging will be in March.”

“This project gives students the opportunity to work on a prestigious “LIVE” brief where they will have the opportunity to see their work professionally completed. Each designer will have to demonstrate a high level of skill and creativity, a sophisticated approach to professional practice, and awareness of health and safety issues to be in with a chance of having their work chosen.”
