College Deemed 'Excellent' for Employer Responsiveness

Chesterfield College is amongst the first Colleges in the East Midlands to be awarded the EM Skills Quality Mark for employer engagement.

EM Skills is the East Midlands quality model which accredits best practice in meeting the training and support needs of business, and is the regional standard of training provider excellence. The achievement marks the culmination of six months’ work in meeting the rigorous award criteria, and follows interviews with employers as well as calls by ‘mystery shoppers’ to the College.

College Business Engagement Manager, Sue Bannister said: “We were highly praised by the assessor for flexibility in responding to shift patterns and employers’ different circumstances. We were also thrilled to find out that in the random sample of employer surveys, which were scored on a 1-5 scale (with 1 being the highest), we didn’t receive any marks below 2!”

“Now that we have been deemed excellent for employer responsiveness at a regional level, our next challenge is to achieve the new National Standard for Employer Responsiveness and Vocational Excellence, which is currently being introduced by the LSC.

“The EM Skills Quality Mark was awarded on 25 January and a presentation event took place at Nottingham University on 15th March. Thanks go to Viv Cockram, Jeremy Asquith, Sue Bannister and Pat McGowan for their work in achieving the status”, she added.
