Help with your studies - Learning with a disability or learning difficulty... |
Students with learning difficulties and/or a disability are welcomed by college and we will always seek to provide you with the support needed to successfully complete your qualification. Additional funding to cover the cost of support or tuition is available for those students with a disability or learning difficulty. To help the College put this support in place you will need to explain to the Programme Manger at interview what help you think you may need. If you have a disability or learning difficulty you will need to make an application for a Disabled Student Allowance ( DSA). You are advised to do this well before the start of the course. For example, you may be entitled to extra support if you are dyslexic, but you will need to provide evidence in the form of a statement. If you do not already have a statement an assessment can be arranged by the Additional Learning Support (ALS) Manager. The DSA provides extra financial help if you have a disability, mental health condition or a specific learning difficulty, like dyslexia. The allowance is paid to Chesterfield College and covers the cost of equipment, extra travel costs, support workers and other associated course costs. If you need financial support to provide evidence of your difficulties eg educational psychologist assessment, this may be available through the Access to Learning Fund but applications will be means tested. To enable the College to make appropriate arrangements we would appreciate any information you wish to disclose about your disability or support requirement as early as possible. We will do our best to ensure that you are provided with the help you need to succeed in your studies. The information given is a guide only, further information please contact Terry Thomas on 01246 500909, or you can call in for a personal interview (an appointment may need to be made). |
