I'm an Adult Learner...
Fees & Funding
Full Level 2 courses: If you are 19 years or over and wish to study for a first full Level 2 qualification* you will not have to pay for your tuition fees. Full Level 3 courses:
If you are aged 19 to 25 and you enrol on your first full Level 3 qualification,
you will not have to pay for your tuition fees. (Please check at enrolment to
see if your chosen course qualifies. We will need to ask you about your
qualifications held to date. We may also be able to help you with your exam fees
too - check with our Learner Services office.)
If you are over 25 and do not have a full Level 2 or 3 qualification and enrol
on a course which would lead to a full Level 3 qualification you will not have
to pay for your tuition fees. (Again, check at enrolment to see if your chosen
course qualifies.)
You will be entitled to 100% tuition fee and exam fee remission if you are on a
further education course and you are receiving one of the following benefits:
• Job Seeker’s Allowance (UB40 card is not acceptable)
• An income-based state benefit for example, Income Support
• Employment & Support Allowance (income related)
• Pension Guarantee Credit*
• Housing or Council Tax Benefit
• Working Tax Credit*
• An unwaged dependent** of anyone in receipt of these
• benefits
* All the pages of your award letter (TC602) must be shown so that your right to
fee remission can be assessed - it is not automatic.
You will need to produce current (that is not more than 3 months old) evidence
of your entitlement to receive the benefit.
** Family members remain eligible for fee remission if the family is in receipt
of Jobseeker’s Allowance (income-based) and are not eligible if a member of the
family is only in receipt of contributions based JSA.
If you do not fall into any of the listed categories - we may still be able to
help you cover the cost of your tuition and exam fees, if you tell us at the
outset. You will need to prove that you are a low wage earner and will be asked
for evidence of the income of any partner or spouse living with you. Not all
courses qualify for help with fees and not all students will get 100% of their
fees remitted. We have a cut-off date for help – please contact Learner Services
for information. Additional help may be available from the Learner Support Fund
to help with other costs e.g. materials essential for course work, help with
travel, childcare payments or emergency payments. Contact Learner Services for
application forms.
If you are studying a part-time Higher Education course you need to apply to the
Local Education Authority for your tuition fees to be paid.
