Adults may return to education for a number of reasons. It may
be to develop skills for an existing job, or gain new skills for
a change in career. It may be to achieve qualifications enabling
entry into university, or it may simply be for personal
interest.
Whatever your reason for returning to education, Chesterfield
College delivers a range of courses at all levels from beginners
to postgraduates, including:
• Skill for Life – this course is for adult learners who would like to improve their literacy and or numeracy skills, gain a qualification and develop their confidence and abilities in preparation for further studies or employment. This course would also give parents the oppourtunity to refresh their literacy skills and the confidence to help their children with homework
• National Vocational Qualifications – work-related,
competence-based qualifications
• Apprenticeships – combining academic study with workplace
learning
• Higher National Certificate/Diploma – work-related,
competence-based qualifications
• Access to higher education – for people who would like to
study at university but who left school without the usual
qualifications, such as A levels
• Foundation degrees – vocational qualifications preparing
people for specialist employment or enabling them to ‘top-up’ to
a Bachelor’s degree
• Professional qualifications – for people requiring recognition
of their achievements by a professional body related to their
chosen profession
